HI,
I am a friend of Raheel Raza, the first (I believe) woman to lead prayers in N America.
MY parents are in love with her and said that she is risking her life by leading prayers (which she knows). I agree with my mother that things would be different in the mosque if women led prayers more often.
Take care, Amin

Why is that people feel that its ok for a women to lead men in congregational prayers? The woman can lead parayers as long as its amonst other women, but for men. Men would be distracted by the fact that a woman is constantly bending, kneeling while making salat. During the time of the Prophet(SAW) if Muhammad didn't lead prayer or wasn't able to lead prayer another man would take his place.

It is a tricky question, especially when the womenfolk are clamouring for 'equality' 'freedom of the sexes' 'woman's lib' etc. ...Islam is a beautiful religion keeping all this + much more in mind and weighing the pros and cons, advantages / disadvantages etc. and issuing its commandments.
here is a site you could browse for the subject 'Woman in Islam' or any subject for that matter:

God bless!

women do follow congregational prayers at the mosque followed by a male Imam. and its absolutely okay. whats not okay is when Women lead men for prayer.
